Editing Processess

Uploading footage

  • This consisted of exporting footage from USB to computer i was editing once
  • Once this had been completed I uploaded the footage onto the final cut library
  • We then selected clips and placed them in correct order according to story board
  • As we took 3 takes of each shot we took the best quality out of the film to be put in

Adjusting footage
  • After this we moved clips around in and completely rearranged the storyboard
  • However we did this in order to create a more complex story which kept the reader engaged and made them think about what the title sequence is revealing bout the story of the actual film.We believed that this could not be achieved if the title sequence was in chronological order and it resemble a short film to much
  • We then adjusted the length of each clip so that the over all time of the entire title sequence fitted within the time limit and so it was in sync with the soundtrack

Effects
  • Some clips in the title sequence were dull or missing the effect we we intended to give them in the storyboard.
  • These often were too long(or short) and uninteresting
  • we fixed this by adding in effect this consisted of timelapse, multiple transition, blackouts, blur, rewinding and much more. This made these clips much more interesting.
  • After this we needed to colour correct the clips we wanted to create a lurid tone making colours such as red stand out but still preserve the dark atmosphere.
  • We achieved this through matching the colour of each clip with green colour this enhanced all the colours especially red after this we then darkened each clip to make the surrounding seem dull and bleak and to create a dark atmosphere further more the colour correction made the title sequence seem more cinematic and made look more polished.
Problems

  • The first problem we came across was the fact that every time we tried to use a time lapse or title effects the film began to lag.
  • We fixed this by lowering the percentage of how fast the clip was until it stopped lagging we also decided to only us to three title effect and that the rest would be extremely simple to stop lag we made the larger and bolder make them seem more interesting
  • The next problem we came across was the horrible pacing of the title sequence however despite this the title sequence was to short
  • We fixed this by going out and filming again and more or less doubled the amount of footage we had.The by adding all of these clips in it required us to shorten all of the clips that were currently in the title sequence to fit within the time limit. This made the film densely packed with footage and not only fixed the short length of the film but also the slow pacing
  • The final problem we encountered was the fact that the soundtrack was not completely synced up with video.
  • We fixed this by adding in final cut sound effects to create the illusion that the video and audio were completely in sync.

References

In the title sequence we make reference to a youtube video entitled This Is Why You Can't Outrun a Cheetah on the Smithsonian Channel. The video is part of larger series called Speed Kills and is the second episode of the first season. We only use 4 seconds of 3 minute clip. The video has a standard youtube licence and was released 10/2/12.The genre of the video is science tech, documentary. In the section of the clip we use the

cheetah is depicted chasing and killing a rabbit.

  • We used the clip to highlight the mindset of the killer.
  • We use the clip as a cut away in a scene where the killer is following then abducts his victim
  • Many would view this as stalking and kidnapping further more breaking the law
  • However the  killer sees it as a hunt just like a cheetah
  • It is also ironic as hunting is traditional seen as sport where aristocrats would gain pleasure from killing small animals such as rabbits with rifles

Permission To Film

  • This document proves that all Extras and actors gave me consent to film them.It Also proves that all owners of certain property allowed us to film there land as a setting in our film.
  • It is important to consent to film someone or their property as the person may feel uncomfortable if you film them or there setting.
  • If so they may legally be able to sue us demand for the removal of the video or ask for us to blur out their face or even attempt to copyright it.

Soundt Track

Adding in Sound

  • Adding in sound was probably the lengthiest but most important as it is the vary bases of the soundtrack. It had to be appropriate to the tone that the title sequence yet constantly changing to keep the viewer entertained.
  • The sound could be divided into two sections.the beat which contained shaker reverse topper.1 and Clock sync 02.1 and The melodies which were various sounds that  depended on the atmosphere the shot was trying to create(such as the Asian Gamelan 01.1)
  • Me and my partner Tobias Berberich did this by going out and creating two individual soundtracks on separate computers. We decided that my one was the suited  the video best .We then worked to together in finishing and fine tuning it until it was perfect.

  • We dived our video into to individual halves at the beginning of the process. However we needed to make sure that soundtrack fitted into  these halves.
  • We tackled this by noting time when one half ends and the other begins. We then synced the halves of of the soundtrack with the halves of the video.
End Of Soundtrack
  • Another problem we came across was deciding on how the soundtrack would end.
  • We noted when the video ended we then filled in a sound of a piano playing  as set an appropriate atmosphere for ending as well as ending the beat which previously had constantly played in loop through out the whole sound track
  • finally we added in a sound effect in relation to the video effect which is used to end film
Sound Effects
  • After we were satisfied with the initial soundtrack we added in  sound effects
  • these were in relation to the atmosphere or tone a shot set or to amplify or highlight a video effect

Planning and securing locations

Garage
  • This is where majority of the title sequence is filmed
  • The victim dies here
  • It was a good location as most torture sequences take place in the garage it also is dark adding an element of creepiness
  • This was in my house so I represented my family giving permission to film here

Dinning room
  • This is my Dinning room a couple of sequences are filmed here
  • This was a good location as it has the best lighting in the house and therefore could be used for short shots of significance such as doing drugs, spilling blood and solving puzzles
  • This was in my house so I represented my family in  giving permission to film here
Garden

  • This is my Garden
  • This is used for establishing shots and is a nice backdrop for creepy scenes as it creates a Lurid tone
  • This was in my house so I represented my family in  giving permission to film here
Living Room
  • This is my Living room
  • It is dark but allot of light enters from glass door so it is useful in creating silhouettes
  • Also the cracked glass adds an element of suggested horrorThis was in my house so I represented my family in  giving permission to film here
Arkley Lane
  • This is Arkley Lane
  • This is an almost empty road with few house making it the perfect location for a kidnaping due to the fact that it has a lack of cars lots of woodland creating the effect of an isolated location
  • Due to the fact this a public Road I did need to seek out permission
Exterior of my house
  • This is My house
  • My house is reasonably large and old this is often associated in the horror genre with ghost often referred to as a "Haunted House" this creates a creepy atmosphere
  • This was in my house so I represented my family in  giving permission to film here
Tv room
  • This is the Tv room in kennedy's Boarding house at Aldenham school
  • The main character is supposed to be studying the media for a long time in this shot. However this can only be shown through a time lapse ,multiple people in a boarding house( which could have not done at home )moving around quickly  amplifies hows stationary the main character is.
  • Due to the fact that it was  shot on school site we had to get   permission from Kennedy's House master Mr Irish. He  kindly gave me his signature showing he gave me consent to film on school premises
